Vegetable Garden Dreaming

This isn't a post with loads of info. It's a plea for help. I want veggies growing in my backyard and I need your input! We share our south facing backyard with our neighbors but I don't think they would have a problem with us using some of that space. If we clear it with the landlord, I'm hoping we can carve out a small space for a vegetable garden. My friend Anna who blogs over at Knit One, Yarn Over has a fantastic vegetable garden that I covet. If I could get maybe a quarter of their tomato harvest, I would be in tomato heaven. Is that also known as bruschetta? Probably. The extent of my edible garden are the mint and basil plants I keep in two separate pots on our porch.

Maybe it's the subfreezing temps that have got me thinking about summer in a garden, but after Anna suggested a raised garden bed I haven't been able to get the idea out of my head. I've done some research and came across this article. Looks easy enough. Though I would want a variety of veggies.

This will probably be a series of posts because I want to figure this out, people. So I have some questions that need answers:

Have you used a raised garden before? Would you recommend it?

Does the type of wood you use matter?

What vegetables would you recommend for a beginning gardener?

How do you deal with bunnies trying to get at your garden goods?

Do you start from seed and if you do when do you start them? Keep in mind I'm in Minnesota.
