Archie's Four Month Update

Jacqui Skemp2 Comments

I know, I know. Second child. But I've written about how crazy life has been, and I only found the chalkboard last week, so... Iggy was hanging out with his Nana and Grandpa, and I took the opportunity to take a few pictures of Archie in the rocking chair. It's the same rocking chair that my momma rocked me in. The same one she rocked my brother in. I've now rocked two of my babies in this chair. Please excuse me while I go cry a few postpartumy tears and eat my feelings.

Okay, okay, I'm back.

I know these posts are mostly for me and the grandmas, but I've really enjoyed being able to go back and read Iggy's old posts. Here we go.

Archie, my love, you are just the sweetest little baby. You came into the world quietly, and you've kind of stayed that way. Yes, you spent the majority of your first two months crying when you weren't nursing or being rocked by daddy or Tio, but you're just the silent type.

You love nursing and laughing with your brother and nursing. You also smile in the funniest way. You open your mouth as wide as you possibly can. That's your smile, and we love it. We can rarely catch it on camera though.

You are pretty ready for bed around 9pm, and aside from stirring during the night to nurse you stay asleep until about 8am. You also take three nice naps during the day. Like you're brother, you've turned out to be a mega napper, and around three and a half months we were able to actually lay you down for naps. Before then you would only sleep if you were being held… or nursing.

You current favorite toys are those plastic links and a smaller version of Sophie the Giraffe. Though, I'm pushing this stuffed giraffe. It worked on your brother. He's obsessed with Bunny.

From the get go you've had very strong legs. In fact, I'm pretty convinced that you kicked yourself into the world. You're already rolling around the floor. As soon as I lay you down on your back you instantly turn on to your tummy. Just this week I've seen you start to scoot forward a bit. Mostly you scoot backwards because of the wood floors.

No one can make you laugh the way your brother does. No one.

You're almost always a drooly mess. So you're rocking the bibs most of the time. You're already in six month clothing, and never got to wear a lot of the sweaters I saved from your brothers first autumn.

I think you have hazel eyes. And you very often have a concerned look on your face. Your eyebrows are so expressive. We love it.

This past weekend we went to the Minnesota State Fair to celebrate your grandpas birthday. It was a year ago that we were standing with your aunts and uncles and grandparents and told them that just the day before we found out that you were on your way. It has been a beautiful year getting to know you, sweet boy. We look forward to many, many more.

Eleven Months

Jacqui Skemp5 Comments
Just a week late this time.

I can't believe you're eleven months old. I never understood mothers who said that time just flew by. I'm glad I took their advice… I have held you, and cuddled with you, and enjoyed your sweet disposition as much as I possibly can. And I still can't get enough of you.

This month you started to crawl. You've been getting around pretty well army crawling, but I think after spending lots of time with one of your buddies and observing his skills, you've finally decided to crawl and you love it.

You've also been pulling yourself up on all sorts of things and making your way around the living room. You absolutely love to hold on to my fingers (or anyones fingers) and be walked around. I bet you'll be walking soon. But you might just start to run first.

You love all your grandparents and aunts and uncles, and crack up when they play games with you. You like to knock over towers that are built for you, and you enjoy a good board book. You really love to listen to grandpa play the guitar and you're mastering the piano. Or so I've heard.

You recognize grandma and grandpa when we FaceTime with them all the way from California. You squeal and laugh every time you see them.

Your favorite foods recently are still beans of any kind. You like cheerios, chicken, blueberries and egg yolks.

We didn't think you would have any teeth for your first birthday, but you surprised us! Two teeth in a week, and we suspect that you have another pair on the way soon.

You made it eleven months before your first ear infection. But it's here, and you are letting us know that you need lots of cuddles and snuggles to help you through it.

You are the joy of our lives, Ignatius.

Ten Months

Jacqui SkempComment
You made it, Iggy! Ten whole months! You are doing so much, and we love being your parents.

You are growing so tall, buddy. Up until now you always wore the size of clothing that matched your age, but recently that hasn't been the case. You tend to swim in your clothing because you're so lean, but you need the length, otherwise high waters.

We laughed recently when we looked at pictures from around Christmas. You had so much hair when you were born, and lost most of it around three months. I remember thinking around Christmas that you had so much hair again, but you're proving us all wrong. You can thank my 'Apa for that. The man has epic hair.

You've been pulling yourself up on all the furniture, and we recently invested in all the baby proofing things we'll need. You were really upset that you couldn't get into the armoire. And thanks to your lean little body, I have to keep a constant eye on your because you sneak under the couch and between the end table and the couch. A few times I've come into the room and all I see are your little legs peaking out from under the couch.

You are eating so many new foods. You love whole cooked green beans, any kind of bean really. You also like scrambled eggs, sopita with beans, chicken, and you love mango and limes! You make me proud.

This month you started clapping a lot, and dancing. I saw you wave bye-bye twice, but you're not interested in doing that one very much yet. You like your sippy cup and puffs a lot.

You don't crawl on your hands and knees, but you arm crawl just fine. And you are very interested in walking. You would love it if just held your hands and walked your around all day. But that ain't gonna happen. You also LOVE your daddy. If he leaves the room, you get very upset, and I have to remind you that I'm right there with you.

We love you, baby boy.
